The University of Huddersfield is proud to announce an expansion of its forensic science course portfolio. Already held in high regard, both at national and international level, for its teaching and research in the subject, the University's School of Applied Sciences has recently launched five new postgraduate MSc courses in forensic science.

These courses offer an in-depth treatment of forensic science from crime scene to court, each with specialist modules covering DNA and body fluids, toxicology, entomology, anthropology, and analytical sciences. These taught modules are combined with laboratory practical work and a major forensic research project. The new developments build upon a history of successful teaching of forensics at the postgraduate level and complements existing successful undergraduate Forensic & Analytical Science courses.

Dr Graham Williams Huddersfield boasts a highly experienced team who have a wealth of experience of case work, are actively involved in research with links across the Globe and act as advisors and consultants to academia, industry and government departments. Dr Peter Maskell, pharmacologist by training, is an expert in forensic toxicology whilst Dr Anna Williams is a high-profile anthropologist with many appearances on UK television. Dr Ben Jones is involved with the development of novel methods for the recovery of previously unrecoverable fingerprints, working closely with the Home Office. Dr Stefano Vanin is an internationally known forensic entomologist with substantial case work experience in his native Italy and has similarly made many media appearances. The post graduate Forensic Science course leader, Dr Graham Williams (pictured), is an extremely experienced forensic biologist (formerly with the Forensic Science Service) and is a pioneer in the development of novel forensic genetic techniques.

The development of these new courses provides postgraduate training in multiple important key areas of forensic science. "These courses have been set up to reflect the substantial breadth and depth of forensic expertise within the School of Applied Sciences. We believe this to be of enormous benefit to the students; who will learn from our substantial experience of casework and end up with not just a high quality post-graduate degree, but with a highly transferable set of skills", says Dr Williams.

The courses (listed below) are open for September 2014 entry. Applicants will need at least a lower second class degree in a science subject (or equivalent)

We will be adding more information about these exciting new courses to the website shortly, but if you would like to find out more, please contact saspostgradadmissions@hud.ac.uk
