Student HV Question Time provides opportunity for debate with national and regional policy makers

Unite the Union are holding a special Question Time event, for Student Health Visitors, providing the opportunity to debates the issues that are of importance to them with access to a panel with national and regional policy makers.

2013/4 marks a midpoint in the health visitor implementation plan and with such an ambitious plan to increase the number of health visitors by 50%, Unite the Union has been busy working with the profession and stakeholders to ensure that everyone delivers on their commitments and that regionally and locally the plan is achieved. One of the key areas of the plan is in the education and training of new health visitors.

This year, as well as monitoring the numbers of health visitors across England, influencing the developing methods of practice and sharing this via Community Practitioner Journal we also want to further focus on the experience of student health visitors, both in the education and training, but also in their expectations, hopes and fears for their future careers. After all, the health visiting students of today will be the experienced professionals at the point when the HV Implementation Plan is completed.

Students from across the region are invited to the Student HV Question Time. Just like the famous television show, they’ll be fielding a panel made up of experts. You’ll be able to question (but more importantly debate with):

  • Dave Munday (Professional Officer and lead for Health Visiting at Unite/CPHVA)
  • Pauline Watts (Lead for Health Visiting at the Department of Health)
  • A representative from NHS England (the national commissioners of HV services)
  • A representative from Health Education England in your region
  • A programme lead for health visiting at a university in your region
  • A student health visitor

You can see who the representatives are.

When, where, why and how to book?

Tuesday 14 January 2014 between 12:00-14:00 at Canalside West – CWG/11, University of Huddersfield, Queensgate, Huddersfield, HD1 3DH

Not only will this be a great way to further think about your future profession but you can get your views across to people who are involved with setting policy nationally. It’ll also help with your studies and professional development.
