Wed, 15 Jan 2014 11:46:00 GMT

Dr Joel Busher and Dr Graham Macklin are commencing a new £63,000 research project to examine the evolution of anti-Muslim protest in two English towns. The project is funded by a Special Interest Group on ‘Managing Far Right Activity’, a consortium of Local Authorities. The research, which combines qualitative and quantitative techniques, will develop a detailed and historically situated timeline of anti-Muslim mobilisation in the two towns. The research will examine underlying structural drivers of anti-Muslim protest and wider community tensions, as well as exploring how the actions and interactions of residents, local state actors, anti-Muslim activists and their opponents have contributed to shape both the trajectory of anti-Muslim protest and the wider cohesion and integration agendas in these two towns.  The initial findings will be presented in July 2014.
