THE University of Huddersfield’s graduation week will be a testing time for two enterprising business students from France.  That is when they launch a new clothing range which they hope will fill a gap in the market for students and graduates who seek trendier alternatives to traditional university-branded garments.

If their cool, designer tee-shirts – with the word ‘HUD’ prominently displayed, accompanied by eye-catching graphics ... see the designs below – prove to be a hit with new graduates who seek a souvenir of their time at Huddersfield, Hugo Tsagliotis and Alexandre Clerch aim to spread their concept around the UK.  They hope that Students’ Unions all over the country will cotton on and sell specially designed tee-shirts on their campuses.

Hugo, from Paris, and Alexandre, from Toulouse, met at Huddersfield when Alexandre set up a group named LinkedHud, for students interested in developing business ideas.

Alexandre and Hugo came up with a scheme to design, produce and sell new ranges of on-trend university clothing and they sought out graphic design students who could realise their vision.  They teamed up with Stephen Bradshaw and Josh Couchman, who came up with a sequence of tee-shirt designs which illustrate the Huddersfield campus in various, often radical ways, using photographs specially taken by Josh.  The HUD word was then superimposed.

Hugo and Alexandre chose four designs and have had a large batch of cotton tee-shirts in a variety of sizes manufactured.  They will be on sale for £14.99 in the Huddersfield Students’ Union building.

The two students have named their business Odace – French for ‘audacious’ – and they hope it will be the start of a flourishing enterprise that will appeal to students around the country.

Hugo, aged 21, has completed his BA in European Business at the University of Huddersfield and now aims to stay on in the UK to study for a further degree.  Alexandre, aged 23, is nearing the end of his MSc in International Business at Huddersfield, having relocated to Britain for undergraduate study, and he too intends to stay on and launch his career as an entrepreneur.
