AT the age of 18, Blessing Maregere (pictured) certainly means business. He is studying the subject at university ... and has already launched a range of enterprises.
When he was just 16, Zimbabwe-born Blessing spotted a gap in the market and set up the Essential Cleaning Company, based in Leeds. He eventually sold it, but soon moved on to new outlets for his energies, including a company named Bright Futures Enterprise, which seeks to encourage entrepreneurship among youngsters.
And now Blessing, who arrived in the UK in 2006 to join members of his family, has become involved with the Leeds group of a go-ahead venture named Not Just A Trading Company.
Due to be fully launched in January 2012, it sells products including rice, coffee, chocolate and tea and operates on Fair Trade Principles – pledging to pay a proper price to its food suppliers abroad and in the UK.
But while he works at his various ventures, Blessing is also immersed in an Enterprise Development degree course at the University of Huddersfield. Despite the fact that he already has a number of enterprises under his belt, he is still learning a lot about the business of business, says Blessing.
And how does he find the time to combine full-time study with all of his entrepreneurial activities?
“I work hard and like to get involved with new things all the time. Fortunately I only need four hours’ sleep a night!” says Blessing.
Blessing has also written about his enterprising ideas. Hear him talk about business ambitions in this video.,.
