Textiles Degree Show Workshops

Textile workshops University staff and their families are invited to the final year Textile workshops.  Here are the details of the workshops taking place from Saturday 15 June to Friday 21 June:                                                                             

Saturday 15 June, 10.00am to 12.00noon

3D Paper Structures and Forms – using a range of handmade and recycled papers to create origami forms and shapes as well as repetition of origami to create large-scale pieces.  Suitable for all ages.

Saturday 15 June, 1.00pm to 3.00pm

Balls of Fun – Making pom poms using various yarns inspired by colour palettes used in the degree show. Suitable for all ages.

Sunday 16 June, 10.00am to 12.00noon and 1.00pm to 3.00pm

Matchbox Project – Describe yourself through mixed media, as long as it will fit in a matchbox! Suitable for all ages.

Monday 17 June, 10.00am to 12.00noon

Meandering Threads – learn one of the oldest textile techniques to create your own tapestry using a range of yarns that you can take home and add to.  Suitable for all ages.

Monday 17 June, 1.00pm to 4.00pm

Salvage – weaving using a variety of recycled materials including: paper, plastic bags, sweet wrappers and newspaper. Suitable for all ages.

Tuesday 18 June, 10.00am to 12.00noon

Bubble Bunting – workshop inspired by a poem aimed at children.  It will involve making bubble inspired art for walls and decoration.  Suitable for all ages.

Tuesday 18 June, 1.00pm to 4.00pm

Crafted Imagination – create your own fantasy story and transform it into a hand crafted book.  Suitable for all ages.

Wednesday 19 June, 10.00am to 12.00noon

Take a Leaf out of our Book – collage a handmade bookmark using paper and fabric. Suitable for all ages.

Wednesday 19 June, 1.00pm to 4.00pm

Take a Leaf out of our Book – creating handmade bookmarks using various hand embroidery techniques.  Suitable for all ages.

Thursday 20 June, 10.00am to 12.00noon

Repetition – in groups create an art piece from one type of object but use hundreds of them.  For example  200 elastic bands or 100 nails. Get creative and come up with something innovative and exciting.

Thursday 20 June, 1.00pm to 4.00pm

Monster Making – design and create your own terrifying monster out of recycled materials and take home afterwards.  Under 12s only.

Friday 21 June, 10.00am to 12 noon

Dive into the World of Knitting – learn how to knit starting with the basics, (if you already know how to knit, come along and show us your skills). Suitable for all ages.

Friday 21 June, 1.00pm to 3.00pm

Intertwining with Colour – Teaching a range of exciting braiding techniques which can be used for interiors, jewellery and accessories afterwards.  Suitable for all ages.
