A sterling effort from Peter Roberts, Senior Lecturer in Podiatry at the University, saw him not only complete the London Marathon with a blistering performance but also raise in excess of £2500 for Ronald McDonald House at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool. The charity provides accommodation for parents whose children are in-patients.

Some of the money was raised through two fitness and physical health assessments that helped to answer the questions, “Are you as fit as you want to be?” and “Are you as fit as you think you are?” Using state of the art facilities and equipment, staff from the School of Human and Health Sciences measured balance, joint range of motion, muscle power, body fat percentage and lung capacity among others. Attendees of these sessions had their fitness tested and their running style analysed to spot any potential cause of injury.

As well as helping to raise the impressive amount for charity through donations, these assessments demonstrated the Department’s facilities and skills in gait analysis. There is no official confirmation, but it may well have been these skills that meant Peter only picked up one blister while completing the London Marathon.
