Saturday Art Club 1 ‌The aim of the National Art and Design Saturday Club is to help 14 - 16 years olds to explore their potential and develop their talent through Saturday classes at their local college or University’s Art and Design School for free.

Many of the UK's leading artists and designers, and founders of some of the country's most successful creative businesses, started out by attending the free Saturday classes that ran in local art schools from the 1950s to the 1970s.Saturday Art Club 2

The Sorrell Foundation has revived this idea, creating a range of new activities and developing a national network which the University of Huddersfield is part of.

‌In term one the students visited the Victoria and Albert Museum, an event which brought all the Club members and their tutors together.

Saturday Art Club 4 In term two, inspirational figures from the world of art and design gave Master classes for the Saturday Clubs.  The University of Huddersfield Saturday Club was lucky enough to have Peter Griffiths, Head Industrial Designer at Nokia and Lea Jagendorf, Design Educator, spend the day with them delivering an inspirational master class.‌‌Saturday Art Club 3

‌This term, term three, included this visit on Saturday 23 May to the preview of the Summer Show located in the Embankment Galleries, at Somerset House, which runs until 5 June.  Students were presented with their completion certificates and a year book listing all 735 club members who took part across England and Wales. ‌

The preview was opened by Ed Vaizey, Minister for Culture, Communications and the Creative Industries.
