University of Huddersfield student Lap Cheung is celebrating a prestigious competition win that saw him receive the top accolade from multinational giant Sony, as well as an array of exclusive prizes.

Lap, a 22 year old Games Design student from Leeds, wowed judges at both Sony and Sucker Punch to win the competition that asked enthusiasts to produce designs in the style of inFamous, the latest PS3 offering by developers Sucker Punch that has taken the Playstation world by storm.

Competitors' 'mission' required them to complete a comic strip designed by Sucker Punch which placed inFamous' protagonist, Cole McGrath, in a moral dilemma. A former bike messenger who was left with electrifying super powers following an explosion that decimated his city and left behind a struggle between good and evil, Cole McGrath must save passengers from a derailed train, but is torn between saving the life of one of the city’s few surviving surgeons at the cost of other passengers.

Lap explains how he got round the tough decision to impress the judges: "I decided to kind of parody what typically happens in these kind of action games and bring in a completely unexpected third option, which was the sudden appearance of a disused construction site, allowing Cole McGrath to use his incredible strength to direct the train to safety, saving the lives of everyone.

"It was fun mimicking the style of Sucker Punch; my aim for when I graduate is to be a games designer or concept artist so this was really good practice. I’m currently on my placement in Canalside Studios so it’s all really good practice for when I’ve graduated."

Lap has been presented with an array of exclusive prizes from developers Sucker Punch, including a print of his artwork signed by them, an inFamous comic book, t-shirts and a special signed edition of the game for PS3.
