Krissie Shaw, a student nurse for people with a learning disability at the University of Huddersfield is ‘over the moon’ with excitement after being chosen as an Olympic torch bearer.

A first year student on the Learning Disability Nursing BSc (Hons) course, Krissie is currently undertaking her academic studies as well as completing a series of placements working closely with people who have a learning disability. She was nominated to carry the Olympic torch for her many fund raising efforts for charity.

Senior Lecturer Bronwyn Roberts said ‘Krissie is a unique young woman; she has shown she has great enthusiasm for the less able and vulnerable in society and has the makings of a great nurse’.

Krissie will carry the torch for part of the route through Rotherham on 26 June and says ‘this is a great honour – I intend to enjoy every minute!’
