French students from all across campus have been celebrating the first ‘French Day’, with the aim of promoting the new French Society at the University of Huddersfield.
This is the first event of this kind, and our French students are hoping this will lift off to create a stronger French community around the campus.
The students held their own French-style stalls at Quayside, which showed off their culture. The stalls offered all the classic foods such as patisseries, breads and cheeses. There were also message boards for anyone from the University to write a message to the French students. The day culminated in an evening social at the Verve Bar in Huddersfield town centre.
“Aujous d’hui a été un grand succès- Esperono qu’il y en ai beaucoup d’áutres comme cela”
“Today has been a success, and I hope this is the first of many to come” Advertising & Marketing Communications student Diane Costerg commented. She said that the University hasn’t seen anything like this in the past, and hopes that this social event won’t be its last!
Two of our exchange students visiting us from France; Sophie Marseille from Paris, and Yahya Escobor from Lyon are both excited to see the Society take off.
“Je pense que cette journée était une très bonne idée car non seulement on a pu se rencontres entre français, mais en a aussi pu faire découurin nos us et coutumes aux étudiants d'Huddersfield” commented Yahya (you’ll have to check your old French school textbooks or Google translate to find out more!)
Although this is the first social event planned, the students are hoping to organise more and build the new community at campus.
