Event: 21st Century Mutuals – Creating a Dividend of Mutuality
Thu, 17 Mar 2011 13:15:00 GMT
Iain Cornish, Chief Executive of Yorkshire Building Society, was the main speaker at a FEGReG evening seminar on 17 March 2011.
Mutual organisation, such as building societies – many of which converted to banks, though often not with long-term successful results – and retail co-operatives, have a long and proud tradition in the UK and other countries.
Drawing on this own experience at YBS, Mr Cornish reflected on the challenges and opportunities provided by mutual status. Eric Summers, whose research with Judith Cork on non-executive directors of building societies, supported by Financial Leeds, prompted the seminar, had earlier opened the evening with his own thoughts on mutuality.
The evening finished with a lively discussion involving the speakers and professional and academic members of the audience.
