Encyclopedic knowledge

Director of FEGReG, Professor Chris Cowton, has recently completed two encyclopedia entries. The first, on “Business Ethics in the United Kingdom” (1,800 words), will appear in the Business Ethics volume, edited by Christopher Michaelson of the University of St Thomas in Minneapolis, in the 3rd Edition of the Wiley Encyclopedia of Management series.
The second, on “Accounting Ethics” (3,300 words), will appear in the International Encyclopedia of Ethics, edited by Hugh LaFollette of the University of South Florida and published in the USA by Wiley-Blackwell.
These are in addition to a piece that was published earlier this year in the 2nd Edition of the Encyclopedia of Applied Ethics, edited by Ruth Chadwick – “Socially Responsible Investment”, co-authored with Joakim Sandberg of the University of Gothenburg.
Chris commented: “Much of the time our writing as academics is focused on trying to come up with something original, such as new empirical findings or novel conceptual analyses; but it’s good on occasion to concentrate on bringing existing knowledge together. It’s a real honour to have been invited to contribute these pieces. I hope I’ve done a helpful job for readers, especially those who are relatively new to the topics. And hopefully there’s still a little originality in what I’ve written too.”
