First year marketing student Rachel Smith won a national competition to design the exterior of Renault’s new ‘Twizy’ electric car. Dame Ellen MacArthur visited the University of Huddersfield to present a prize of £9,000 towards tuition fees to Rachel.
The challenge was to design the exterior of Renault’s new eco friendly electric car “Twizy”. Rachel’s design was initially shortlisted by the competition judges, a panel which included TV car expert Quentin Wilson.
On the design Rachel says, “The design 'In a Twizy' was represented by twists and twirls, whereas the colour scheme was a thought of nature...the Rainbow, and that together with the reasoning and thought idea behind Renaults commitment to reduce pollutants and emissions gave me the lead with The Rainbow Warrior of Greenpeace.”
Rachel was the clear winner of the shortlisted ten after she received the most votes through a campaign hosted on Renault’s website and facebook.
Upon being presented the cheque and facing the media Rachel commented, “I was very nervous but felt privileged to have won such a competition.”
