TIGA has announced the University of Huddersfield as its newest member.

The trade association representing the UK games industry has welcomed the university which offers three different courses in the games industry.

BA Computer Games Design, BSc Computer Games Programming and FdSc Computer Games Technology are all offered by the uni and all three courses have gained a positive national reputation.

According to Damian De Luca Digital Media subject leader, “We work closely with developers such as Rockstar Games and Team 17 to ensure are [sic] teaching meets industry requirements.”

The University opened Canalside Studios in 2006 allowing graudates to work on developing games. Since the studio opened both Yo-Ho Kablammo and Missing Reel have been launched on the XBLA.

De Luca revealed graduates were getting jobs with the likes of Rebellion, Sega and Blizzard and stated it “suggests we are doing something right!”

TIGA CEO Richard Wilson was more than willing to welcome the new addition to the association.

“University of Huddersfield’s approach to games development education is ground-breaking.”

He added, “By allowing students and staff to become fully immersed in the development process the University is able to offer industry access to graduates who already have in-studio development experience under their belts.”

This follows TIGA winning the prestigious Trade Association of the Year Award 2010 last week where it also scooped the Member Recruitment Award too.
