Leading Labour MP, Jon Cruddas, came to Huddersfield to meet with politics students.

In a lively and sometimes controversial session, the politics students asked a range of questions concerning Labour's election defeat and how they might get back into power. During the Q and A session, Mr Cruddas compared the economic and social changes currently facing Britain to those which transformed the country during the Industrial Revolution. “Therefore we have an obligation to rebuild the Labour Party. We have to rediscover our vitality and identity as we live through extraordinary changes. We must be a vehicle to articulate the material concerns of working people.”

Dr Richard Hayton said 'We believe it is important that students have the opportunity to meet with those who hold political office. We have a number of speakers coming to the University this year and we are very pleased that Jon Cruddas set a high standard of debate'.
