The School of Human and Health Sciences believes that learning should be innovative, flexible and fun. Exciting mobile technologies offer lively additions to the more traditional approaches to study and have the potential to revolutionise learning and teaching. New students on our September 2011 Politics courses will have the opportunity to contribute to, and evaluate these opportunities by taking part in our dynamic mobile learning project using the Apple iPad. Each participant will be provided with an iPad which will be used by students and lecturers to enhance learning and teaching opportunities and experiences.

Senior Lecturer in Politics and admissions tutor Dr Richard Hayton said: “I am delighted that politics students joining our degree programme in September will have the opportunity to take part in this project. The iPad is an engaging device which will add a valuable new dimension to the learning experience at Huddersfield. It is also a powerful research tool which will reinforce our commitment to inquiry-based learning.”

The politics degree programme already uses a range of teaching and learning methods including lectures, seminars, workshops and tutorials, as well as ‘off campus’ initiatives such as the highly regarded work placement programme. Politics staff such as Dr Pete Woodcock have an enviable record in pioneering new teaching and learning initiatives that embed new technologies in the curriculum. Providing iPads to students will facilitate the further development of this programme and provide new opportunities for creative learning in politics.
