Wayne wins a thank you award 2013!

Just announced are the thank you awards, nominated by students and jointly offered by the University Teaching and Learning Institute and the Students’ Union.
Wayne Bailey, a course leader and lecturer in the School of Education, won the Assessment and Feedback category. He teaches on the following courses; Educational Administration and Management BA, Education and Professional Development BA, Childhood Studies BA, Higher Education PgCert/MA.
It was one of the students on the BA Education and Professional Development who nominated him and here’s what they said:
‘His knowledge, enthusiasm and passion for his subject are apparent. It is only equalled by the dedication, support and encouragement he offers students, and is surpassed by the motivational quality of feedback and assessment methods used.
As a part-time, off-campus student, my expectations for meaningful, constructive feedback and assessment were exceeded. His innovative use of mixed-media added richness and depth to my learning experience. Creative use of audio feedback commentary as part of assessment enhanced the written commentary, vocally consolidating the content of the feedback through expression and inflection.
Outcome successes were celebrated, challenges and suggestions were given weight, and most importantly, I felt motivated to improve and exceed my own expectations of the course.’
The awards provide an opportunity for our students to recognise a member of university staff who has made a major positive impact on their time here in three categories: Inspirational teaching, Assessment and feedback and Excellence in student support. There was an awards ceremony to celebrate the hard work and enthusiasm of our staff. This year the judges agreed that a finalist was so strong in each of the categories that they would award an Outstanding Contribution Award to Cath Ellis from the School of Music, Humanities and Media.
