Registry team take the THE Outstanding Registry Team

THE University of Huddersfield’s Registry Team – responsible for assuring the quality of all courses and overseeing rules and regulations – has been voted the nation’s best at the 2013 Times Higher Education Leadership and Management Awards. One of the achievements that earned the award was a new system leading to dramatic falls in student problems and complaints.
The Leadership and Management Awards celebrate the Higher Education sector’s leadership, management, financial and business skills. The University of Huddersfield’s Registry is headed by Kathy Sherlock and it works closely with the Pro Vice-Chancellor for Teaching and Learning, Professor Tim Thornton.
In order to be shortlisted for the THE award, the department submitted a documented outlining its wide-ranging role and the innovations it had made. For example, students who have a complaint or other problem affecting their studies can contact a Student Conciliator. As a result, formal complaints have dropped dramatically to single figures, while in the university sector overall there has been an increase.
The Leadership and Management Awards ceremony was held at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel and hosted by comedian and TV science presenter Dara Ó Briain. The University of Huddersfield team that accepted the award included Professor Thornton, Kathy Sherlock, Karen Brough and Derrick Dykins, plus Margaret Culshaw and Pamela Williams, who are Student Conciliators for the schools of Applied Sciences and Human and Health Sciences.
The prize for Outstanding Registry Team is the latest in a sequence of awards to have been won recently by the University of Huddersfield – they include the title Entrepreneurial University of the Year and Inspiring Leader of the Year, for the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bob Cryan.
