The Childhud Studies Society is open for business!

Two enterprising students, Stevie Morley and Katie Fallas (pictured above), both passionate, committee students have set up a course-based Society to enable students interested in childhood across the University to develop their expertise and practice outside the classroom! The idea is to provide a forum for the course and professional development. They have loads of ideas for the Society which include;

  • Networking
  • Lectures
  • Guest speakers
  • External visits
  • Social events
  • Discussions about research
  • Sharing group learning across the different years of undergraduate courses.

The society was formed after they attended the University/Students’ Union awards evening and realised they wanted to do something to help them stand out from the crowd, like the other students did gaining awards.  The Students’ Union provides the structures and support to enable these groups to be set up.

Their enthusiasm is infectious and there’s already a Society hoodie, which is being noticed around the campus!  They have also booked their first external speaker, Neil Griffiths, the creator of story sacks in January 2014.

Their experience of working in schools and playgroups prior to starting the course has helped them set up visits, which will benefit all the students on the course.  They hope that these experiences will help them achieve a higher degree classification.

Anyone interested in joining should send an email to childhud@hotmail.co.uk
