A global survey which quizzes international students about their experiences has put the University of Huddersfield on top of the world!
The International Student Barometer, conducted by the independent research body i-graduate, is a survey of 48,000 international university students in the UK and across the world. It asks students a series of 60 on-line questions about their studies, campus facilities and their life as a student abroad.
And in the summer 2011 survey the University of Huddersfield came out top – not just in the region, not just in the UK but in the whole world.
The University’s average score was 87.4 per cent, almost five percentage points ahead of the average for all universities.
Huddersfield scored particularly highly on employability and work experience, with students being given the chance to earn money during their studies.
The University’s teachers and courses also scored very well and the clean and modern campus earned high marks.
The University of Huddersfield’s Dean of International Development, Professor David Taylor, said: “We are delighted that our international students rate us so highly. The success of our international students is very important to us, as we know how difficult it can be to leave home and study in a foreign country, often in a second language, and we know how important their future careers are to them.
“So we are grateful for their kind appreciation and we hope that our new International Student Support Team and the new Student Centre, which will be built over the coming year, will help us to stay at the top”.
Professor Taylor revealed some of the comments received from international students....
“I personally feel that I’m learning more and more each year from my course and not only theoretical things, but things I can put to practise” – a student from Cyprus
“All the staff in this University are very kind and willing to help us in both study aspects and living aspects” – a student from China
“The library facilities are amazing” – a student from Libya.
“One is made to feel comfortable and treated as part of family with the maximum support always available” - a student from Zimbabwe.
