Professor John Atherton is to receive an award from the Society of Chemical Industry (SCI).
The Society’s Chemistry for Industry Award is presented to an individual in recognition of their work in successfully applying chemistry to enable or support a sustainable industrial development in the Yorkshire and Humber region. Recipients of the award have made a major contribution to development and implementation of strategies based on chemistry, which have had a significant beneficial impact on the sustainable development of a company or industry sector.
Professor Atherton is a key member of the University’s Innovative Physical Organic Solutions (IPOS) group which offers analytical services and chemical process development to the chemical industry. The award recognises his work with IPOS and previously at ICI, Zeneca and Avecia.
The award will formally be presented to Professor Atherton at a public lecture in December.
