A recent symposium was held at the University, supported by BERA’s Post-compulsory and lifelong learning special interest group. It aimed to look at how educators can use fiction and creative practice to promote reflection, empathy and knowledge construction amongst adult learners.
Together with Professor Christine Jarvis, Dean of the School of Education and Professional Development and Lifelong Learning Cert Ed/PGCE tutor Sarah Williamson, Chad Hoggan from North Carolina presented their experiences.
A link to the event page is here which includes the abstracts of the papers presented at the event, which included the findings from a study which concluded that fiction can stimulate deep learning and change, can be used to promote empathy and how ‘making’ can promote reflective thought whist offering a ‘way into writing’.
