As part of the Childhood Studies BA(Hons), Chris Blamires teaches the students project management. The course includes placement opportunities but the can be in the form of group rather than the traditional individual placements. The placements take place in the second year and are for a total of 120 hours, one day a week.

In order to prepare for their placements and practice project management, one enterprising group of students decided to produce a cookery book and raise funds for charity As Chris bakes the most wonderful cakes, his students asked whether he had more recipes. And he obliged with a recipe book produced by his mother since the 1940’s….

As Vicky Marsland, one of the students, explained, ‘We decided that we would use this as an opportunity to raise funds for Children in Need. We designed the book layout and arranged for the printing, sponsors, publicity and distribution. The booklet was even mentioned on Look North! And the Halifax agreed to match fund what we raised from sponsors and sales. In the end we raised over £2,500.'
