Dr Benjamin Jones, a physicist, will be joining the forensic science team in the School of Applied Sciences on 31st October as a Senior Lecturer in Forensic Science.

Ben has an MPhys from the University of Oxford and PhD from Trinity College Dublin. He comes here from Brunel University, where he has established a research centre and developed post-graduate teaching programmes. His multidisciplinary research focuses on diamond-like carbons which has many applications; including medical devices and aerospace. Ben applies this expertise in nano-scale interactions to finger marks and the interaction between the print, the surface and development agent.

He works closely with the Home Office to improve forensic protocols for police forces and his research has attracted international interest. He has had received grants from the Leverhulme Trust, EPSRC, the Royal Society, and the Technology Strategy Board – amongst others.

I am sure you will join us in welcoming Dr Jones to the University of Huddersfield.
