Applicants to the PGCE Design Technology course are evaluated for the practical skills they will bring to the start of their course.  It is anticipated that there will be a few who , although they have very secure  designing  experience, and potential teaching ability, will need some pre-course practical experience.

For the last four years a D & T Booster Course has been delivered in July whereby participants complete a number of mini projects to develop practical knowledge, skill and understanding.  The purpose of this Booster Course is to ensure that at the start of the PGCE course all students can progress securely, with what is an intensive PGCE course.

This year there is a small group of participants from varying backgrounds have embarked on this two week course.  Their enthusiasm for engaging with the machinery, equipment and processes and the different materials was easy to see.  The aim of making the Booster Course both enjoyable and developmental was achieved very early in the course.

Sarah Carr was pleased with the opportunity to take advantaage of this provision, commenting, "It has acted as a perfect refresher since doing my degree in Art and Design and provided me with necessary skills required for the hard graft in September!"
