As part of ongoing refurbishment of the Lockside building at the Queensgate campus, investment was made recently to provide a specialist facility for all early years, childhood studies and primary courses.

There are now two specialist rooms.

The main room is very large and has various areas to allow specialist work for different age groups, such as mark making, construction, numeracy, creativity, messy, water and sand play, role play, structured play, a library/quiet area along with the traditional student and research teaching area.

‘We’re really excited about what we can achieve with this specialist area at the University’, explains Ceri Daniels, course leader for Childhood Studies BA(Hons). ‘The facility has enabled us to do so much more and, at the same time, increase the employability of our students, as they will be able to put their learning into practice right here before they take up any placements or practice in their settings.’
