A recent event organised by the Politics society saw Colne Valley MP Jason McCartney quizzed by students during a lively and passionate Q and A session.
Students from the Politics BA(Hons) course were joined by students from across the University for the event, which saw the local Conservative MP quizzed on a wide range of issues including the current economic situation, Coalition government foreign policy, UK membership of the European Union and the nature of modern Conservatism.
Mr McCartney, an avid Huddersfield Town supporter, was appointed to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly UK Delegation in 2010.
The event was chaired by Dr Richard Hayton, who said 'it is a pleasure to welcome Jason back to the University as he is always keen to encourage debate amongst our students'.
Established by students under the auspices of the University of Huddersfield Student Union, the Politics Society have planned a range of exciting events to take place throughout the forthcoming academic year, including future visits from MPs and other policy-makers, film screenings and a visit to Westminster.
