Becoming a leader for quality is to embark on a journey for which there is no defined destination. There will always be something new to learn, different ways of doing things and new challenges. New research, knowledge, reflection and experiences will influence thinking and practice, and will impact on understanding of quality. You are an important researcher in the quest to understand leadership for quality. As you develop your knowledge and experiences, so this will add to the shared understanding of the works in terms of leadership in the early years. Leading for quality and making a difference for all children should make your job among the most rewarding leadership roles available.
'Leading2gether' is aware of this and sets out a number of good practice case studies led by Early Years Professionals (EYPs) working with young children. The case studies highlight changes that have been developed through a programme of continued professional development and action research based on two main threads:
- Development of EYPs as leaders of practice
- Development of quality provision for two year old children and families
The overall aim of the programme is to provide managers and practitioners with knowledge of what works to improve children's outcomes and life chances.
The case studies tell reflective stories of leadership and practice and each case study will take about five minutes to read.
Whether a leader, manager, or room practitioner, we hope you find material to aid you in your own continuous quality improvement. It may be that in reading the stories of how EYPs have led others, you gain ideas for leading staff within your own setting, or that in reading about the many ideas for developing practice you gain new ideas for engaging with our youngest children and families.
