PhD student Katerina Alba has won this year's Institute of Food Science and Technology Young North of England Young Scientist Competition. Katerina's presentation entitled "'The use of pectin extract from okra pods as an emulsifier in acidic food environments" was judged to be the best presentation in the postgraduate category of the competition which was held at the University of Leeds.
This isn't the first time Huddersfield students have been successful in this competition, with Sara Walls and Kathryn Armstrong winning the undergraduate category in 2011 and 2012 respectively.
