The 2011 National Student Survey reported high levels of satisfaction for this part-time course, and the range of learning materials and teaching activities perhaps explains why!

The course uses a blend of day schools, guest lectures, online web based materials and email and face to face tutorial support.  The course attracts full-time employees from a wide range of educational organisations, including local authorities, schools, colleges and universities over a very wide geographic region, hence teaching is condensed into six day schools a year with online support at other times.

As Frances Marsden, Course Leader explains, ‘We use a variety of teaching and learning strategies in the day schools, including Learning Mats, Learning Carousels and Learning Laundry Line, Voting Pads, Dominoes and Picture Quizzes. This gives the students time to work together and apply the knowledge and theory they have been taught. ‘

The students gain information from networking with each other as well as from the teaching activities to give them a full understanding of the sector they are working in.
