University sponsors Innovation and Enterprise category in latest round of Examiner Business Awards
THE University of Huddersfield – which holds the title “Entrepreneurial University of the Year” - is sponsoring the Innovation and Enterprise category at 2013 Examiner Business Awards, promoted by the district’s daily newspaper.
The Innovation and Enterprise Award celebrates new ideas, processes, products, services, technologies and applications that have boosted an organisation’s success.
Judges will be looking for the originality of the innovation, its impact, its practicality and the benefits it brings to the business.
The 2012 winner was the leading machine tool manufacturer Asquith Butler, based in Brighouse. It is a historic firm, with roots stretching back to 1865, but is at the cutting edge of engineering innovation and has formed a research partnership with the University of Huddersfield’s globally respected Centre for Precision Technologies.
The University forms many links with regional commerce and industry and in addition to the title Entrepreneurial University of the Year award, bestowed by the influential journal Times Higher Education, it has also earned two Queen’s Awards for Enterprise. Its Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bob Cryan, has been named “Inspiring Leader of the Year” in the Guardian University Awards.
It is home to the new 3M Buckley Innovation Centre, which provides space and state-of-the-art facilities to companies ranging from large corporations to ambitious start-ups, and the University is also playing a major role in the proposed innovation centre to be based at the redeveloped Globe Mills in Slaithwaite.
The Examiner Business Awards have been running for eight years and this year's event features ten categories. Entries close on Friday 6 September 2013. The presentation ceremony takes place at the John Smith’s Stadium on Thursday 14 November.
The University itself has had success at the Examiner awards – including the title Employer of the Year and Business Person of the Year, bestowed on Professor Cryan.
