A Huddersfield pharmacist is on the Steering Group of a new international initiative to help people affected by acne.

Dr Mahendra Patel is taking a leading role ensuring that pharmacy is represented in the Acne Priority Setting Partnership, an initiative of the Acne Academy and James Lind Alliance, which aims to find out what the main priorities of acne patients are and map those priorities against existing research.  That insight into important gaps in what is known about acne treatments will then be used to influence the direction of future research by making a top ten list of unanswered questions about acne treatment available to researchers and the bodies which fund them.

The ultimate aim of the project is to provide a better choice of treatments and ensure that health professionals are better informed about acne treatments.

The project invites people who have been affected by acne or who have a role in its treatment to take an online survey at www.acnepsp.org.  The project recently received a major boost with the news that Lloyds Pharmacies across the UK would be helping to promote the survey by distributing flyers about the project.
