The Teaching Agency has, as a result of excellent results in a recent survey, asked to work with the University in sharing best practice in this vital element of primary school teacher training.

The government has retained the commitment to improving the reading ability of young children and the Schools Minister is taking an interest in providers who are successful in delivering this aspect of teacher training.

For the past three years 100% of our primary trainee teachers have rated this aspect of their training as good or very good on the Newly Qualified Teacher survey.

Teaching Agency exit surveys in 2011 and 2012 have also demonstrated our success in this area. In collaboration with the Teaching Agency and other training providers we have produced materials which have been disseminated across the whole sector. For the past three years we have also hosted several phonics conferences for trainees and coleagues from partner schools.
