Strengthening the collaboration between universities

The Emerging Markets Research Group held a three-day conference between 25-27 June 2013. 

The conference idea was initiated by Dr John Anchor, Director of the Emerging Markets Research Group at the University of Huddersfield's Business School

A number of representatives from the University participated in the conference, along with speakers from the Technical University of Liberec and the Technical University Ostrava, both situated in the Czech Republic.

‌Those involved were members of staff and a number of PhD students who presented various aspects of their research and research interests. The presentations covered areas such as Corporate Social Responsibility, political risk management, forecasting management and employability. 

Publishing was a also a key theme of the conference. This was reflected in a presentation entitled How to Publish by Professor Chris Cowton, Dean of the University of Huddersfield's Business School, and a presentation on the use of library resources – Summon, some relevant specialist databases and EndNote by Martin Philip from the University Library. 

The conference was also pleased to welcome Rob Edwards and Jamie Allen, Publishers at the Emerald Group Publishing Limited, who gave a presentation called Getting Published

The conference was concluded by a Meet the Editors panel discussion with Professor Glenn Hardaker and Professor Len Tui Wright from the University's Business School, who talked about their experience as editors of three ABS ranked journals. 

Besides offering an opportunity for networking and interactive discussions, the EMERGE Conference served as an opportunity for strengthening the collaboration between the University of Huddersfield and both the Technical University of Liberec and the Technical University of Ostrava, where Dr Anchor is a Visiting Professor in the Faculty of Economics.  Dr Anchor said: “Feedback on the conference has been excellent from participants. I hope that it will be possible to organise a similar event in the not too distant future”.
