Yinka Shonibare MBE: Material Positions

This one-day conference aims to explore the history and development since the mid 1990s of Yinka Shonibare’s work in the British context, and to examine its position within the global culture of contemporary art today. Led by the School of Art, Design and Architecture, University of Huddersfield in association with Yorkshire Sculpture Park, the conference accompanies Yinka Shonibare MBE: Fabric-ation, the UK’s most extensive exhibition to date of work in sculpture, film, photography and painting from 2002-2013 by the internationally renowned Anglo-Nigerian artist. We welcome papers from academics, artists and curators addressing aspects of the whole spectrum of Shonibare’s work.

300 word abstract and 100 word speaker biography to be submitted by Tuesday 30 April 2013 (please note the extended deadline).
