Bird watching walk

Tue, 30 May 2017 09:00:00 BST

Everyone is welcome to join the upcoming bird watching walk, with Chris Abell from the Huddersfield Bird Watching Club.

The walk is scheduled to take place on the Sunday 11 June at Langsett Reservoir at 8.00am.

The meeting place will be the sign posted car park at Langsett Barn. This is on the right hand side of the A616 heading towards Sheffield and M1. Here is a map of the meeting point.

There are lots of options at Langsett Reservoir depending on the weather and open access restrictions. We will decide on the day where we will walk, taking into account the weather conditions. Potential walks could include:

          • A walk along the reservoir bank and returning through the woods (which could be up to 2 hours on good marked paths)

          • A complete circuit of the reservoir which is about 4 miles and which would allow 4 hours (all on marked paths, some of which are over open moorland)

          • A longer linear walk up the Little Don Valley and returning back (which would be about 4 miles with parts of the walk on unofficial paths).

Which ever route is chosen, good boots, layered clothing and waterproof coats are needed. It is suggested to bring a drink and some refreshments as the walk could be up to 4 hours long over rough ground.  Walk at your own risk! This event is organised in collaboration with the Huddersfield Bird Watching Club and the University of Huddersfield Sustainability Group.
