World University rankings THE University’s English Language and Literature department now ranks in the Top 300 Departments in the World, according to global rankings firm QS.

The latest analysis from the QS World Subject Rankings places Huddersfield’s department of English Language and Literature among the top 300 departments in the world and is one of only 42 UK university departments to appear in the subject table.

Professor Dave Taylor, Pro Vice-Chancellor (International) The QS Intelligence Unit has been compiling the rankings since 2004 using comparative data to highlight the relative strength of institutions.

‌To compile the rankings, QS evaluated 4,438 universities, qualified 3,098 and ranked 1117 institutions in total.  Over 127 million citations were analysed along with nominations data from the annual 2016 QS Academic and Employer Surveys.  The University of Huddersfield was delighted to have received nominations from as far afield as Canada, Australia and Brazil.

Professor Dave Taylor, Pro Vice-Chancellor (International) said: “This is a highly rewarding result, and we are delighted that our colleagues in English have been recognised in this way.  It is also very pleasing to see that we have some other subjects that also score highly but currently fall just outside the highest rankings – we hope that this will have changed when the analysis is done again in 2018.”
