Dear Colleagues

As you will know Julie McClelland, our Director of Human Resources sadly passed away last year.  To commemorate Julie’s time here at the University, and her many significant contributions to our working environment, we have renamed the Large Conference Room in the Schwann Building in her honour.  A renaming ceremony was held last Friday in the presence of Julie’s family and many of her close colleagues.    A plaque has been placed in the entrance to the McClelland Suite which contains the following wording:

Dr Julie McClelland  (1962-2016)

Julie joined the University in 2003 as Director of Human Resources.  As a member of the Vice-Chancellor’s Executive Team and the University’s Senior Management Team she was responsible for the strategic management of Human Resources at the University.  During her time at Huddersfield she secured the European Commission HR Excellence in Research Award, Investors in People Award and oversaw the introduction of the Living Wage for all employees.  In 2015 she was delighted that her team was awarded the Times Higher Education Award for Outstanding Contribution to Leadership Development.

Julie was a much respected colleague.  Her wisdom and good humour are greatly missed by all who worked with her, both at the University and in the HE sector more widely.

Professor Bob Cryan

Vice-Chancellor
