‌The latest Grist collection is launched on Friday 17 March (17.30-19.00) at the Epicure Bar and Kitchen

Grist THE work of talented new writers is showcased alongside stories by established authors in the latest edition of the Grist anthology titled I You He She It,published by the University of Huddersfield.

It is launched at a special event during the town’s 2017 Literature Festival, when a panel of judges will announce which three contributions out of 33 stories and poems that appear in the 200-page book have been awarded prizes.

Contributors to the latest Grist collection include students of creative writing at the University of Huddersfield.  And the anthology has been edited by a student team, who undertook the project as a work placement.

Dr Simon Crump They were supervised by creative writing lecturer and author Dr Simon Crump (pictured left), who paid tribute.  “They worked very hard putting this book together with me,” he said.

‌“The Grist ethos is to mix established writers with up-and-coming writers,” continued Dr Crump.  “The new edition has all kinds of genres of fiction and there’s some very strong, original and entertaining stuff in there.”

I You He She It is subtitled Experiments in Viewpoint.  The theme attracted submissions from around the world – with the prospect of prizes for the top three – and the selected stories and poems are clustered according to their narrative stance, beginning with “I”, through to “It”.

Grist has appeared in various formats.  In the past, it has published poetry by the likes of Simon Armitage, Ian McMillan and Lemn Sissay, and prose by authors who include Helen Simpson, John Boyne and Alexei Sayle.  In 2017, it is produced and published for the first time by the University of Huddersfield Press.

The anthology launch takes place at a free public event on Friday 17 March (17.30-19.00) taking place at the Epicure Bar and Kitchen, Queensgate, Huddersfield.  It is part of the 2017 Huddersfield Literature Festival and includes readings and the award of cash prizes to the authors of the three stories and poems selected by the judges, who are the publisher and journalist Sam Jordison, author Steve Finbow and the poets Steve Ely and Helen Mort.
