Building an Academic Community: engaging our students
This year’s Teaching and Learning Conference will showcase practice from staff and students across the University who are developing engaging teaching and learning that improves student educational outcomes as well as satisfaction and retention.
The Conference will take place on Wednesday 13 September (Please save this date in your calendar).
Staff are encouraged to deliver workshops and presentations – closing date Friday 17 March.
This is an opportunity to share and celebrate successful initiatives which engage students in environments that are both supportive and appropriately challenging. Staff are encouraged to share practice which fits into one of the following themes:
- Student voice/working in partnership with students. For example, how students are working as change agents or as co-researchers to improve their educational experience.
- Learning technologies for example use of lecture capture, personal academic tutor dashboard, mobile devices, social media etc.
- Innovative teaching, learning and assessment practices that improve student outcomes.
- Practices and initiatives that align with the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) metrics and have a positive impact on:
- Student retention, reducing non-continuation rates
- Student satisfaction with the teaching on their course, assessment and feedback and academic support
- Employment/destinations six months after graduation, including self-employment, freelancing and voluntary work.

Completed forms should be forwarded to the Teaching and Learning Institute by midnight on Friday 17 March.
