IAN RANKIN The Huddersfield Literature Festival begins with a free launch at the Brontë Lecture Theatres on Friday 3 March from 6pm, and events begin on Saturday 4 March - showcasing both established and emerging writers and performers, as well as offering the opportunity to attend workshops and masterclasses.

Many literature greats will be welcomed into Huddersfield, including Lemn Sissay, Joanne Harris, Ian Rankin (pictured right) and Jenni Murray. Events range from poetry slams to comedy nights, including talks by Alan Johnson MP, Julie Summers, Michèle Roberts and Henry Normal.

The theme for 2017 is ‘courage’, and the Festival’s Courage Is Poetry Project is currently on display at venues across the town centre, showcasing poems by established poets and competition winners.

Michelle Hodgson, Festival Director, said: “The Huddersfield Literature Festival goes from strength to strength to produce thoroughly entertaining events. This year’s festival is one of our most ambitious.”

The events will be held between 4-19 March throughout Huddersfield town centre sites, such as Lawrence Batley Theatre, Huddersfield Town Hall, Media Centre and University of Huddersfield.

University staff and students are allowed FREE TICKETS for many of the events.
