Grist launches at HLF 2017

Postgraduates and academics, new writers and established names, short stories, poetry, radio personalities and politicians –writers of all kinds are participating, from all spheres of literature.

And our own students - whether at PhD level or as undergraduates - have the opportunity to participate, behind the scenes or front of house, and attend many of the events for free.

One such project is the launch of the latest edition of the University’s in-house publication, Grist. This is a project which offers a unique platform for new writers alongside more established names in literature.

The new anthology, ‘I. You. He. She. It’, has been edited by a team of Literature and Creative Writing students, who have been involved in creating, editing and publishing the work.

"Working with Grist as part of my second year work placement meant that I was part of the team that chose the final submissions that are published in the anthology. Aside from getting to read an array of fascinating stories and poems, I also found it incredibly beneficial working with English professors who have had their own work published: improving my knowledge of the publishing process and sparking my own interest in creative writing."- Laura Hallas (English and History BA(Hons)).

"Being involved with Grist was fantastic. It was interesting to see the variety of work that got sent in. We all worked together to choose the best stuff, which wasn't easy. I'd recommend the experience to anyone who gets the chance to be involved. Working with the creative writing tutors at Huddersfield has been an invaluable opportunity."- Blythe Beresford (English Literature with Creative Writing BA(Hons)).

“We have been working closely with the HLF for many years now and are delighted that they have included our book launch in their festival programme”, said Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing Dr Simon Crump.

University staff and students can attend the launch for free by emailing  literature@hud.ac.uk – it takes place in the Epicure Bar from 5.30pm – 7.00pm.
