The roadshows are annual events hosted by COT regions for all occupational therapists, occupational therapy staff and occupational therapy students and are designed to ensure attendees are confident and equipped to engage with the Occupational Therapy Impr...oving Lives, Saving Money Campaign and to sign post our members to available COT resources to evidence the value of their service.

We welcomed Genevieve Smyth who is the Professional Adviser for Mental Health and Learning Disability at COT, who enthusiastically facilitated an afternoon of exciting, thought provoking and innovative networking. The roadshow considered the key recommendations from the COT report Reducing the Pressure on Hospitals – the Value of Occupational Therapy and next steps for the campaign. Participants were encouraged to identify who they need to talk to and discuss ways of influencing locally, messages they can tailor locally and outcomes they want to achieve. The roadshow enabled participants to explore how they will promote the value of Occupational Therapy to managers, commissioners and service users alongside being provided with knowledge of COT resources to evidence key messages about their service. We considered how to write patient stories and engage with the local and social media.

The roadshow was successful with clinicians, educators and students from across the region being able to network, share ideas around promoting the value of Occupational Therapy and determining the evidence for this. Thank you to all who attended and we look forward to seeing you again at the University of Huddersfield.
