Planning team IN The University's Planning Team has been shortlisted in the Outstanding Strategic Planning Team category of the Times Higher Education Leadership and Management Awards 2017.

The awards dinner and presentation ceremony will take place on Thursday 22 June in London where the winners will be announced. It promises to be a spectacular event with over 1000 guests including politicians, senior sector figures, and academic and professional services staff from universities across the UK.

The submitted application for the awards focussed on the work the Planning Team have undertaken on national policy development. The team were a key member of the review of the Destinations of Leavers Census, testing the TEF metrics extensively on behalf of HEFCE and being an Alpha Pilot Institution for the Data Futures Project which aims to completely overhaul how data is used in UK Higher Education.

Paul Youngson, Head of Planning and Timetabling said of this achievement “This is a huge recognition of the importance the Planning Team have had over the past year, not only on the performance of the University on the national and international stage but also the Team’s substantial positive impact on national policy developments such as the Teaching Excellence Framework, the DLHE review and the move to live data submissions.

“I’m incredibly proud of the Team and I’m looking forward to representing the University at this prestigious awards ceremony.  It is great for the University to be shortlisted in such a competitive category and sends an excellent message about how much impact we are having on the sector.”

The team has also built a very well-received TEF dashboard for senior staff which allowed them to show how our work developing national policy is having a significant positive effect on our internal performance.

The Planning Team have had a very successful few years integrating the impacts of a rapidly changing sector into the day-to-day running of the University and they’ve overhauled the way many internal processes run to improve their efficiency such as the student target setting process, the student aspect of the devolved revenue model and the annual planning process.
