For the sixth year running Huddersfield marketing students were represented in the national Brandstorm finals in London. The competition is hosted by L’Oreal and aims to develop student marketing talent through an innovative competitive project based around the company’s brands. The competition attracts student teams from the UK and across the world culminating in an international final held in Paris.
This year the brand selected was L’Oreal Men Expert and the teams had to develop a complete customer experience in men’s grooming by creating a ’life-changing innovation’. Two teams of final year students from Huddersfield were represented at the UK finals in London – Team Hybris and Team Innovision. Competition is tough and this year attracted a record number of universities wanting to take part, 41 in total, all vying for one of the 8 places in the UK finals.
This year the competition was split into two awards, the Tech Challenge and the Brand Challenge. Team Innovision made it through to the final 3 in the Brand Challenge presenting to the L’Oreal UK managing Director and brand Executives, however it was Team Hybris who walked away with the Tech Challenge award.
Brad Sewell from team Hybris comments "We've really enjoyed working in a highly competitive environment, whilst representing The University of Huddersfield and the Business School against some prestigious universities. It's been a fantastic experience and we're delighted to have progressed to the European regional final. May we also say a huge well done to Team Innovision who represented Huddersfield alongside us in the UK finals, and who were extremely unlucky to not progress to the regional finals in the Branding competition."
The team will be working with L’Oreal over the next month to see if their innovations will get them to the international final as one of the qualifying teams from Europe, and bring them a step closer to winning the prize money of 10,000€!
For both teams the experience has been invaluable and something that will help their CV’s to shine as they enter the end of their degree and begin competing in the graduate job market.
