‌September – second warmest

wasp September was the second warmest experienced in Huddersfield since our records began in 1990.  Rainfall was below average whilst wind speeds were above average.  All average figures are those recorded from the Applied Sciences weather station since 1990.

The monthly mean temperature was 16.4˚C compared to the average figure for September of 14.3˚C making it the second warmest September since our records began (warmest 2006 with an average temperature of 16.6˚C).  The warmest day of the month was Wednesday 7th with an average temperature of 20.8˚C (average 18.9˚C).  The highest maximum temperature of 27.1˚C was recorded on Thursday 15th, it was the fifth highest temperature recorded for September since our records began.  The coldest day of the month was Friday 30th with an average temperature of 10.2˚C; the lowest minimum temperature of 6.1˚C was also recorded on this day.

A total of 43.4mm of rain was recorded during the month (average 57.7mm).  The wettest day of the month was Saturday 3rd with 13.2mm of rain fall (30.4% of the month’s total).  Fourteen days of the month escaped rainfall the driest spell falling between Monday 5th and Wednesday 7th

The mean wind speed for the month was 9.22km/hr.  The highest mean wind speed was 30.24km/hr recorded on Wednesday 28th.  The maximum gust of 89.64km/hr was recorded on Wednesday 28th.

The prevailing wind direction for was south west.
