Brief Biography:

Drawing inspiration from opportunities working with such jazz luminaries as Bobby McFerrin, Sheila Jordon and Ian Shaw, the unique and emotionally uncompromising vocal style of Lindsay Hannon is garnering plaudits from audiences nationally and internationally.

Recently selected to represent the North East’s jazz community for the European commissions ‘Singing Cities’ touring project, and Jazz North’s ‘Northern line’ programme, she is currently writing an album of original material exploring themes of identity.

Accolades:

“Hannon’s voice is soulful, brooding and unselfconscious in its longing, with many of the songs in her set exploring themes of wistfulness and introspection. Yet it wasn’t all melancholy; Hannon can also swing with the best of them…full-bodied, lyrical vocal… effortlessly riding the beat and coming in to land gracefully at the finish.” – Jazz Journal

“Wonderfully vibrant and robust music-making from start to finish – Hannon’s voice is strong and clear, and she is remarkable for her tonal modulation and stylistic adaptability. This was not a singer + semi-detached trio, but a wonderfully coherent band – and every number demonstrated that in abundance. Hannon’s presence was commanding without being overbearing; and her stagecraft was both charming, but minimal allowing the music to speak for both her and the band.” – Wakefield Jazz

“Vocalist Lindsay Hannon’s phrasing is second to none and this live recording is of exceptional quality… Hannon’s inventive, playful interpretation of a lyric is something that places her in the top bracket of singers currently working the jazz club circuit” – ‘Bebop spoken here
