November Graduation Ceremonies get under way

The University celebrates the graduation of 1,500 students at its second series of ceremonies in 2016

ALMOST 1,500 students receive their degrees at 15 ceremonies taking place over four days at the University of Huddersfield from 14-16 November.

Graduation ceremony There are also honorary awards for eight people, distinguished in fields that range from science and social care to finance, engineering and design.  Also, a Holocaust survivor will receive recognition for her work in raising awareness of the Nazi atrocity.

‌The week sees 2016’s second sequence of awards ceremonies.  Six of the University academic schools will bestow undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.  There are also 48 doctorates to be conferred on UK and overseas researchers.

The honorary doctorates go to:

  • Monday 14 November – Professor Sir Al Aynsley-Green, a specialist in children’s health care; Jenny Molloy, Patron of British Association of Social Workers England, author, trainer and speaker.
  • Tuesday 15 November – Sir Gary Verity, the Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, well known his role in the 2014 Tour de France; Professor Dame Ann Dowling, President of the Royal Academy of Engineering; Professor John Colligon, University of Huddersfield engineer awarded the title Emeritus Professor on his retirement.
  • Thursday 17 November – Kigge Mai Hvid, a leading global voice in sustainable design, leader of the globally-famous INDEX: Design to Improve Life; Iby Knill,Czech survivor of the Holocaust who made her life and career in England before in 2003 she began to write and talk about her wartime experiences; Jane Platt CBE, former Chief Executive of National Savings and Investments.
