Waste management campaign An exciting new initiative is being rolled out across the University which will improve the way we dispose of our general waste.

From 28 November 2016 as part of an approved University Sustainability Initiative, Campus Services will be running the new ‘Keep our campus green – know your waste’ campaign. This involves centralised waste recycling points being installed across all University buildings and the waste bins located by individual’s desks being removed. This introduction intends to help us as a University maximise the amount of Dry Mixed Recycling (DMR) we produce whilst reducing the proportion of waste we send to general waste.

You will not need to do anything except place your waste to the correct part of the dual bin, rather than simply putting everything in a bin under your desk. Please ensure that you use these bins correctly as any contamination of DMR will result in the whole bin having to be disposed of as general waste: this includes any contamination from non-recyclable materials or unclean recyclable materials.

For more information about acceptable DMR waste and the waste management changes on campus please visit the website.

If you have any questions or comments, please contact waste@hud.ac.uk

Dry mixed recycling waste usually includes:

Paper – eg dry paper waste, newspapers, office paper and magazines

Cardboard – eg corrugated cardboard, cereal boxes and card

Metal Cans – eg clean, empty drinks cans and food cans

Plastic – eg rinsed out milk bottles, empty drinks bottles and clean salad trays

General waste is the remainder of the non-hazardous waste, including waste contaminated with food.
